Prevention is central to PSR’s mission, as we continue to address the root causes of, the prevention of and healing from interpersonal violence with our children, in our families, and in our communities.  Exposure to inflicted, or witnessed, violence creates not only physical, but psychological pain. Hurt people go on to hurt others, and the cycle continues.  PSR believes that youth violence reduction must be addressed holistically by providing communities with a continuum of strategies from “prevention through healing.”

Peaceful Posse is uniquely focused on giving children who have been exposed to high levels of community violence the ability to begin to heal from the traumatic effects of the violence they have experienced or witnessed, as well as begin to build the social and emotional skills they need to refrain from violence and crime. Parent Posse groups are being piloted in those communities where we have successfully implemented peaceful posse groups for adolescent boys and girls.

Legs Against Arms, 5K run/walk to strengthen our legs as we oppose handguns in Philadelphia.  A Celebration of and by Youth follow the walk race and our partners develop educational venues for participants.

Advocacy Against Handguns – Through advocacy against handguns initiatives, PSR unites physicians, medical students, and community members who are concerned for the growing epidemic of violence to call for stricter handgun laws. We believe that reducing access to handguns is one of the ways that death due to firearms can be prevented.

Bullying Prevention - For the past six years, PSR, in partnership with the School District of Philadelphia, has implemented the nationally acclaimed Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP) in over forty eight, K – 8 public schools impacting over 30,000 students and over 2,500 staff.
